Launch Day Lookback
Hey guys!
Simia has finally released! I hope you give it a try and enjoy it.
This would be my first proper game release ever, and I feel like it shows in a lot of places. I had a story I wanted to tell with Simia, that of these two characters that I really grew attached to after first designing them. I decided to create an adventure game like this, feeling it would get the story across the best way, delving into a genre that I'm not all to familiar with both as a player and a developer, BOI was that not the brightest idea. Trouble after trouble, bug after bug, I followed through and finished the game. Albeit there is a lot that I feel like could be better, such as more responsive combat, a more polished camera, better sound design, better performance, so on and so on.
At the very least, this was a great learning experience, I learned what kind of games I like and don't like making, I learned how stressful launch day is even for a free game, I learned how to make a digital artbook, I learned how to work with someone else in game development, I learnt how annoying unity can be with pixel art at times, I learnt that I am not very good at making real-time games or telling linear stories. I am going to take everything I learnt here and use it to drive forward my next game project, I will improve and do better, cause the biggest thing I did learn is that every game you make is the start to improving yourself even further.
I hope you did enjoy this venture with me, and even if you didn't, I thank you to the bottom of my heart for giving it a try. And I hope you give whatever I try next a try too! Make sure to give me a follow on twitter on Gattanima or Polygonheart (NSFW warning) as I keep people up to date on what I'm doing next, as well as following Zilof as his work is great and I think you guys should look forward to anything he makes! I'm feeling like making a Strategy RPG instead next, I love turnbased games and SRPGs like Disgaea are my favourites of all time, let's see together how much better that'll turn out :)
